Blog 2: Summer Mentorship

Link to my Summer Mentorship Hours Spreadsheet is HERE.

My mentor's name is Lesa J, whom is the creator of the bricktoyaface Promoting Company. I don't have a phone contact but I do have an email lesaj.99@gmail.com .

Questions that were raised during my 10 summer hours were:
1. Is there someone else from the company that I can also work with that deals specifically with performing or performs themselves?
2. Will I be able to work with the bricktoyaface company to promote myself as an artist?
3. I am only able to mentor during events and help organize a few so I might not be able to get all the hours and experience I need here. Where else can I go to mentor?

4. By far the most important thing I did during my summer mentorship was have the sit down talk with Lesa J (my mentor). She really gave me an inside preview as to what the business is going to be like. Lesa helped me understand that the process to becoming successful as a musician- from what she has experienced- is a long frustrating one. She recommended that I try to familiarize myself with the people at the bricktoyaface group and the musicians that take part in their shows because some day they might be able to offer me something I need. In other words, Lesa J expressed the importance of networking now at a young age, rather than later.

5. Going in to summer I was fairly confident that I wanted my senior project topic to deal with performing. Talking to Lesa J and getting to work with her the short amount of time that I did, reassured me that I really did want to commit to music performance.

Above is the flyer that I was handing out at the different campuses and music shops promoting the upcoming D.I.Y Festival at the Glass House in Pomona - August 31st.

Here's a video one of the artists-Curtiss King- showing off one of a samples he has mixed.
